National Notary Association

Good, Bad, or Evil?

While many signing agents (mobile notaries) detest the NNA (national notary association) for flooding the mobile notary market with new entrants, I think the organization is not entirely evil.

Background

When I first became a notary, I joined the NNA, and it’s signing agent division for two years. While it wasn’t a complete waste of money, it was not my best investment. The NNA’s signing agent site is rarely used by quality companies because so many NEW notaries are listed in the directory. There are many better directories out there, and if you list with the NNA you will probably get only crappy $50 calls. Just my two cents.

Information

The NNA does have a wealth of information though on its website, especially pertaining to becoming a notary in a particular state. They have done their research and they make it easy to find the requirements to become a notary. They also have some cool supplies and are not outrageously expensive.

Conference

Each year the national notary association hosts a conference in Las Vegas. I have never been, but it looks like it would be a fun time.

Recommendations

Buy supplies from the NNA. Don’t join their signing agent directory, or sign up for their classes. Watch their website for articles pertaining to the industry, but other than that, stay away!
